Homemade Pizza Crust

This is a homemade pizza crust recipe that I've tried many times and the family loves it.  This is better than store bought pizza crust and it's gratifying to hear the words, "Honey, this is delicious!"

  • 1 (3/4 oz.) pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (105 to 115 F)
  • 3 1/4 cups Unbleached Bread Flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon 100 % Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.  Combine flour, salt and sugar in large bowl.  Add yeast mixture. Stir well.  Add olive oil.  Stir about 3 minutes or until a smooth dough forms.  Form into a ball.  I also pour about another teaspoon of olive oil over dough so it doesn't stick to the bowl.
  2. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place about 1 hour or until doubled in size.  Usually if it's in the summer, I will place the bowl on our picnic table on our deck.
  3. Once the dough has doubled in size, cut it down the middle.  Press the dough into two 12-inch pizza pans.
  4. Heat oven to 425 F and top with favorite toppings and cheese.  Our favorites are mushrooms, green bell peppers, black olives, banana peppers and hamburger.
  5. Bake until the cheese has melted or lightly browned.
